Itinerary
-
Grožnjan
A car-free maze of arches, ateliers and music drifting from open windows. Once nearly abandoned, Grožnjan was reborn as a town of artists, today every other doorway is a gallery or a studio.
-
Oprtalj
Perched at 378 metres, Oprtalj opens to all four horizons, a sea of vineyards, frescoed churches and a loggia made for slow afternoons. The local konoba is reason enough to linger over lunch.
-
Motovun
The walk up the ramparts is unforgettable: the Mirna valley unrolls beneath you, mist clinging to the forest where Istria's famous truffles hide. The view back at the town as you approach is the photo of the day.
This is the Istria the postcards never quite capture, three hilltop towns strung along the green inland ridges, each one a small world of stone, art and flavour. We collect you in Rovinj at 08:00 and wind our way up through vineyards and olive terraces, returning around 17:00 (and gladly later if the day calls for it). The pace is unhurried by design: this is a day for long lunches, quiet viewpoints and a glass of Malvazija in the shade.
Along the way your driver doubles as a local guide, where to find the best truffle shop, which konoba serves the fuži worth crossing a hill for, and the lookout points most visitors drive straight past. Everything is private, just for your group, and the itinerary bends to your mood.
Central Istria is best experienced slowly, because the details are what make it memorable: a cat asleep on warm stone, a view that opens suddenly between two houses, a family cellar where the wine tastes like the hillside around it. This trip is not built as a rushed photo stop. It is built as a private day with room to breathe, enough time to walk the walls of Motovun, browse Grožnjan’s small galleries, pause in Oprtalj, and decide along the way whether lunch, truffles, olive oil or wine should become the centre of the day.
If you want recommendations, we can shape the route around the best local flavours: truffle products from the Mirna valley, Malvazija and Teran wines, olive oil, homemade pasta and small konobas that still feel local. For guests who already know Istria, the day can become more specific and quieter. For first-time visitors, it is the clearest way to understand why inland Istria is just as special as the coast.
